Resources for the Grassland Industry

The International Grassland Congress developed this page as a resource for those in the grassland industry.  The resources below are divided by geographic area, and include links to each organization.

Resources by Region

Africa

Grassland Society of Southern Africa

The vision of the Society — advancing rangeland ecology and pasture management in Africa — also embodies the mission of the Society, and has become the central theme of the Annual Congress.

Asia

Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute

The Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute has been a part of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research since 1966. The institute was created to fulfil the needs of the nation and to conduct organized scientific research exclusively on grasslands and fodder production and their utilization.

Japanese Society of Grassland Science

The Japanese Society of Grassland Science was founded in 1954 for the purpose of promoting and fostering the study of grassland and forage crop science and extending the outcomes. Membership is open to persons interested in grassland, forage crop science and related fields.

Europe

British Grassland Society

The British Grassland Society (BGS) is a membership organisation which acts as a communication forum, through events and publications, for the profitable and sustainable use of grass and forage.  BGS brings together all those with an active interest in the science and practice of grass and forage production and utilisation; research workers, farmers, advisers, teachers and technical members of the agricultural industry.

European Grassland Federation

The Mission of the European Grassland Federation (EGF) is to be the leading research and knowledge exchange platform in Europe dealing with all aspects concerning grasslands.

North America

American Forage and Grassland Council

The American Forage and Grassland Council (AFGC) is an international organization made up of 20 affiliate councils in the United States and Canada with a total individual membership of about 2,500.  Our primary objective is to promote the profitable production and sustainable utilization of quality forage and grasslands.

The Society for Range Management is the professional scientific society and conservation organization whose members are concerned with studying, conserving, managing and sustaining the varied resources of the rangelands which comprise nearly half the land in the world. Established in 1948, SRM has hosted over 4,000 members in 48 countries, including many developing nations.

American Society of Agronomy

The American Society of Agronomy (ASA) is a progressive international scientific and professional society that empowers scientists, educators, and practitioners in developing, disseminating, and applying agronomic solutions to feed and sustain the world.

Southern Pasture and Forage Crop Improvement Conference

Texas A&M University Extension’s site promotes the annual event of Southern Pasture and Forage Crop Improvement Conference (SPFCIC). This event hosts educational workshops regarding research and agricultural practices specific to pastures and forage crops of the Southern US.

Canadian Forage and Grassland Association

The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association was formed in 2010 to provide a national voice for all Canadians who produce hay and forage products and for those whose production is dependent upon forage and grassland production.

Forage and Beef Research Information from Canada and Northern USA

The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) is Canada’s national industry-led funding agency for beef, cattle and forage research. The BCRC is funded through a portion of a producer-paid national levy as well as government and industry funding, and is directed by a committee of beef producers from across the country.

Crop Science Society of America

The Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) is a progressive international scientific society that fosters the vision to improve the world through crop science.

Oceania

Grassland Society of Southern Australia

The Grassland Society of New South Wales is dedicated to the transfer of information and technology relevant to pasture, grazing and land management and aims to advance the investigation of problems affecting grassland husbandry and to encourage the adoption into practice of results of research and practical experience.

The Australian Rangeland Society

The Australian Rangeland Society is an independent and non-aligned association of people interested in the management and sustainable use of resources in natural or semi-natural landscapes, such as grasslands, shrublands and woodlands. Given the diverse activities and needs of people in the rangelands, the Society exists to provide a forum for the free exchange of ideas and information amongst people who live remotely or are concerned about rangeland issues in their work.

New Zealand Grassland Association

The NZ Grassland Association, formed in 1931, is one of the largest science societies in NZ, with over 800 members. This society provides a forum for grassland farming and promotes the value of research and its application.
